Kodaira Health Point Project

~ Walk, Measure and Participate ! Widen the Circle of vigor! ~

Project Overview (Background & Purpose)

In Kodaira City, the percentage of the citizens who walk 8,000 steps or more on average in a day in everyday life is low (15.8% for men and 8.0% for women aged 20 to 64 and 6.8% for men and 5.4% for women aged 65 or older). To address health issues including it, various programs are promoted with the target of helping citizens increase their physical activities in everyday life.
One of the programs to achieve the target is the Kodaira Health Point Project, which was launched in 2018 to encourage people to establish an exercise habit and continue it.
In this project, the city lends meters to measure physical activities to citizens and gives points according to their health development efforts including the number of steps in everyday life, participation in the events designated by the city and receipt of medical checkups. A walking class to walk the courses in the Kodaira City Walking Map is also organized as an event for the participants in the health point project.
These programs aim to ensure that citizens can continue to develop their health while enjoying it, enhance their health awareness and achieve the target.

Comments from the Person in Charge (challenges, inventive points and future plan)

Kodaira Health Points

  • The project effectively gives opportunities to walk. I also feel that a mechanism to encourage people to walk more steps is needed.
  • We would like to develop a mechanism to ensure that the participants can remain motivated even after they have achieved the target.
  • We plan to increase the participants by 300 people each time. We would like to promote the program via word of mouth and other means to expand it and increase the participants.

Walking Class

  • We organize the class to disseminate correct knowledge of the way of walking and ensure that people can walk efficiently.
  • We would like to organize the class regularly as a tool to maintain and enhance the motivation of the participants as well.
