Katsushika City

Project to Create and Use a Walking Map

~Promoting a Project to Improve Residents’ Health~

Project Overview (Background & Purpose)

In the Second Katsushika Health Achievement Plan formulated in March 2019, Katsushika City set the goal of promoting improved health and preventing lifestyle diseases among all residents.
To achieve this goal, the city is working to popularize “walking” as a trigger for improving health in order to have everyone, from younger generations to the elderly, form an exercise habit, and various departments have collaborated to create a walking map and to develop projects making use of the walking map.

Details of Project

The Katsushika Walking Map and the Health Improvement Map Using Outdoor Exercise Equipment and Walking
Created the Health Improvement Map Using Outdoor Exercise Equipment and Walking (FY2015; created by the Parks Section), which lets users walk while touring parks with outdoor exercise equipment, and the Katsushika Walking Map (FY2016; created by the Local Health Section), which lets users walk while touring famous places in Katsushika; users can adopt different perspectives when walking, depending on their objectives.
The created maps are distributed at city facilities (city hall, Health Plaza Katsushika, etc.) and health-related enterprises conducted by the city, to make them widely known among residents.

Reviews of Participants

Let’s Walk in Katsushika: Walking among Fall Colors in Shibamata and Mizumoto

  • The fall colors were pretty, and we were able to enjoy walking while looking at the scenery. With so many guide personnel, we reached the goal without getting lost.
  • The distance was appropriate and just the right amount of exercise. I want to participate again next year.

Comments from the Person in Charge (challenges, inventive points and future plan)

Let’s Walk in Katsushika: Walking among Fall Colors in Shibamata and Mizumoto

  • Partly because the meeting place was one section of a broad riverbed, we had trouble with how to direct people to the meeting place and how to distribute personnel. We will continue to look for easily understood ways to direct and guide people. Also, we distributed maps showing the course for the day to participants and we tried a number of innovations, such as printing a bus timetable on the back of the map and showing a map with different scales to make branches in the course and checkpoints easier to see.
