Project Overview (Background & Purpose)

Arakawa City government has been working on projects for raising awareness of “walking” among many generations as a familiar sport which they can carry out easily in their local area in preparation for holding 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In addition, we have been promoting the revitalization of the local communities through sports, as well as through preventing lifestyle diseases by keeping acting enjoyably and effectively for building up health in local areas.

Comments from The Person in Charge (hardships and improvements, prospects for the future)

City Resident Walk

  • People of all ages can participate in the City Resident Walk. Participants are first given a short, one point lesson on the proper way to walk, after which they go on a roughly five-kilometer-long walk in the city.
The aim is for participants to get comfortable with walking as a means of exercise, and to promote health.
